I finally severed ties with the Indiana Daily Student this semester to embark on my first internship. I started last week. I’m a little late to the internship game — much like how I was a little late to the whole journalism game period — but I do finally have one.
It is at the Bloomington Herald-Times, my local paper here. So far I have written two stories for the HT. The first was about a group of students protesting the Chick-Fil-A on campus and the second was about two undocumented students who are struggling to complete their degrees a year after an Indiana law began requiring students to verify their citizenship in order to pay in-state tuition.
The first story was assigned to me; the second was my own idea. I hope to break away a little from campus stories at some point, but I’m happy with how both of these stories turned out (they even both went P1).
The HT has a paywall, so you can’t really read these stories with a subscription. I’ll post the best stories I write on here, but not until after the paper is no longer on stands.
